I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. Although I want to do good, I am not able to do it. dwells. Although I want to do good, I am not able to do it. ROMANS 7.18
No one can start in the middle; We are all beginners in some area of our life.
However, for many of us, what we need looks more like a new beginning, a clean slate, a path from chaos to wholeness that can be achieved one step at a time. We call that journey recovery. Let's look at that first step:
Step 1: We admitted that we had no power over our addictions and compulsive behaviors and that our lives had become unmanageable.
Our first step is huge. We are finally ready to admit that we do not have the power to control an addiction or behavior.
The more we try, the more unmanageable it becomes. Our lives have reached chaos. When we take that first big step — relinquishing control — we are moving away from denial and acknowledging our own need.
There is hope in that first step, as we cannot get help until we admit that we need that help. Until then we try to be God in our own lives, and we don't really measure up to the task.
We don't have the power to control anything with our own strength. Step 1 allows us to free ourselves from ourselves.
SENTENCE
God the Father, today I take that important first step toward healing and wholeness. I admit to you that I have no power over the strongholds that have taken over my life. I desperately need your help. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
